This is an introductory Module of 16 modules in the ESL course. Using ice-breaker activities and the friendly culture of the class, students will be able to warm up to the course and ease into the curriculum. Students get to know one another and be able to use appropriate grammar to write and present prompt responses. Grammar focuses on verbs 'to be' and continuous tenses. Students consider their goals in taking this course.

This course is the scientific communications portion of course 7.02, Experimental Biology and Communication. Students develop their skills as writers of scientific research, skills that also contribute to the learning of the 7.02 course materials. Through in class and out of class writing exercises, students explore the genre of the research article and its components while developing an understanding of the materials covered in the 7.02 laboratory.

This resource is to introduce the research process, how to find relevant information, and how to compile a varied source list for your argumentative essay. The second portion focuses on thesis statement/claim crafting, outlining, introductions and conclusion drafting.

In this activity, students will get exposure to different French sounds. They will practice the alphabet and common tongue twisters. They won't have to worry about the meaning of what they're saying, but more so get comfortable moving their mouths in a new way.

Students will practice introducing themselves, greeting someone, and answering how they are doing. They will also learn greetings for different times of the day. Students will understand the cultural importance of la bise, how this particular form of greeting differs in distinct areas of France, and deepen their cultural insights into how to perform a ubiquitous French greeting. Students will also learn about the geopolitical divisions in France.

In this activity, students will answer questions about themselves. In addition, they will have the opportunity to share information about their hometown with the rest of the group.

In this activity students will begin by reviewing different signs they learned last semester. Then they will practice asking and answering questions about themselves. The goal is for students to get to know each other better!

The Girls Who Build Cameras workshop for high school girls is a one-day, hands-on introduction to camera physics and technology (i.e. how Instagram works!) at the MIT Lincoln Laboratory Beaverworks Center. The workshop includes tearing down old dSLR cameras, building a Raspberry Pi camera, and designing Instagram filters and Photoshop tools. Participants also get to listen to keynote speakers from the camera technology industry, including Kris Clark who engineers space cameras for NASA and MIT Lincoln Laboratory, and Uyanga Tsedev who creates imaging probes to help surgeons find tumors at MIT. During lunch, representatives from the Society of Women Engineers and the Women's Technology Program at MIT will present future opportunities to get involved in engineering in high school and college.
