A Brief Mathematical Guide to Earth Science and Climate Change
Rating

This collection of activities is based on a weekly series of space science problems distributed to thousands of teachers during the 2009-2010 school year. They were intended for students looking for additional challenges in the math and physical science curriculum in grades 9 through 12. The problems were created to be authentic glimpses of modern science and engineering issues, often involving actual research data. The problems were designed to be ‘one-pagers’ with a Teacher’s Guide and Answer Key as a second page. This compact form was deemed very popular by participating teachers.

Academic artist Enrique Legaspi grew up singing, skateboarding, and creating. As a teacher, one day he realized, "I'm doing everything I can, I'm staying up late, but I'm producing the same results. What's going on?" Now that he's begun to modify and adapt his teaching to his students' interests, Enrique's students are creating, curating and sharing their work using video and social media -- and it's made all the difference.

If you are reading this then the chances are pretty good that you are taking this course to wrap up your requirements for English/Language Arts. I know what that's like. In your efforts to complete everything you have to do in order to graduate you may have a tendency to rush to finish things on time. Every effort has been made to make this an enjoyable experience for you. Each unit will provide you with some information about the skills that you are expected to master in addition to why those skills are important as you transition out of high school and into whatever life may have in store for you.
Beyond an appreciation for the texts and concepts presented in this class you will see why the skills that you develop will be applicable to life outside of school. You may wonder initially how some of the materials fit into your plans, but the ability to read things critically and analyze information will help you to become a better decision maker and to see how some of these common themes are ones that humanity has struggled with for as long as people have shared information and entertained each other.

Open Educational Resources + Dual Enrollment
Conditions of Use:

Rating

This practice brief provides guidance to help K12 and community college dual enrollment program instructors and administrators identify and implement programs using open educational resources (OERs). This practice brief focuses on how OERs can remove potential barriers to students’ access to higher education by promoting textbook affordability for all students. As high schools typically cover the cost of textbooks and other course materials, the costs of college textbooks may deter high school students from considering dual enrollment programs, particularly low-income students. The integration of OERs in dual enrollment courses may help mitigate this barrier.
