The ACTFL/ILR Oral Proficiency Interview by computer (OPIc) exam tests for speaking skills and is offered for various languages, Arabic being one of them. The exam can be administered to students of all proficiency levels who are in college and beyond. The length of the exam is 20-30 minutes and it is rated by ACTFL Certified ILR OPIc Raters. The results reported are individual scores of proficiency from 0 to 2.

This resource gives detailed proficiency guidelines for second language learners in the four major categories of speaking, writing, listening, and reading. It separates proficiency into five major levels: distinguished, superior, advanced, intermediate, and novice. Advanced, intermediate, and novice are further divided into high, mid, and low sublevels. The guidelines give detailed descriptions of language use regarding each level, applicable to all languages.

This resource was created by Maelynn Liewer, in collaboration with Dawn DeTurk, Hannah Blomstedt, and Julie Albrecht, as part of ESU2's Integrating the Arts project. This project is a four year initiative focused on integrating arts into the core curriculum through teacher education, practice, and coaching.

This course introduces interactive oral and interpersonal communication skills critical to leaders, including strategies for presenting to a hostile audience, running effective and productive meetings, active listening, and contributing to group decision-making. There are team-run classes on chosen communication topics, and an individual analysis of leadership qualities and characteristics. Students deliver an oral presentation and an executive summary, both aimed at a business audience.

The Arabic Proficiency Test measures reading and listening skills. The exam can be administered to high school and college students as well as to professionals. The length of the exam is 2 hours 30 minutes and its format is selected response/multiple choice. Ultimately, the reported result is based on ACTFL scores of novice, intermediate, advanced, and auperior proficiency levels.

This course provides an introduction to bargaining and negotiation in public, business, and legal settings. It combines a "hands-on" skill-building orientation with a look at pertinent social theory. Strategy, communications, ethics, and institutional influences are examined as they influence the ability of actors to analyze problems, negotiate agreements, and resolve disputes in social, organizational, and political circumstances characterized by interdependent interests.

Australian Aboriginal art is one of the oldest continuing art traditions in the world. Much of the most important knowledge of aboriginal society was conveyed through different kinds of storytelling—including narratives that were spoken, performed as dances or songs, and those that were painted. In this lesson students will learn about the Aboriginal storytelling tradition through the spoken word and through visual culture. They will have the opportunity to hear stories of the Dreamtime told by the Aboriginal people, as well as to investigate Aboriginal storytelling in contemporary dot paintings.

This lesson is meant to play with the genre of autobiography. It introduces two types of autobiography (reflective and factual) and asks the students to compare and contrast them. Students prepare to write their own autobiography, in the style they prefer. This is a modification of a lesson plan originally created for an intermediate-level Spanish course by Frances Matos Schulz, Jun Takahira, Yoko Hama, Camille Braun, Olga Salazar Pozos, and myself.
