Learning Grammar and Vocabulary using GVScapes

A scavenger hunt is an outdoor game, which required the player to collect specific item based on the clues given to them. The participants are usually working in small team, or on individual basis to participate in the games. The goal of this hunt is to be the first to complete the clue list. A scavenger hunt is distinguished from a treasure hunt where the latter involves one or a few items that are desirable and completed in sequence. While, the former primarily collects undesirable or useless objects in a random order based on the list. 

GVScapes is an educational apps for students to learn English grammar and vocabulary using their mobile phones. It allows the student to physically roam five locations in University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) by utilising their mobile devices’ capabilities. In addition, the students are required to answer a list of questions or solve the problems provided in the apps which allow them to practice information seeking skills. GVScapes can be an educational and fun experience for all English language learners regardless of their age groups and levels of proficiency. In addition, GVScapes provides more than repetitive memorization as well as to allow more students’ engagements in their learning experience when a game or competition is involved. Therefore, GVScapes could assist UMS students’ English grammar and vocabulary learning using their smartphones. 

Location based AR

GVScapes is a location-based AR with the infusion of interactive technique for digital data that overlays digitized information on physical objects or places. The location-based AR is one such technology which helps in determining and identifying the exact location of any device such as a Smartphone, tablet, laptop and so on. Back in 2000, technology related to receiving location information was made available to the public with the help of a revolutionary invention known as the Global Positioning System or the GPS. Some of the examples of applications using the location-based AR consisted of Pokemon Go and object information that display specific information on particular object in the immediate environment. GVScapes is a location-based AR apps where learners are mobilized in various locations in UMS. GVScapes apps has shown its effectiveness when users are localized based on the locations setup.
