Middle School Entrepreneurship Exploration

Lesson Topic:

Entrepreneurial exploration; risks versus rewards.  

Lesson Description:

This two-day activity will allow students to explore entrepreneurship through in-class discussion and interactive activities. 

Learning Goals/Outcomes:

Students will explore entrepreneurial concepts and traits needed to run a small business.

Software: Internet access, Word processing software.

Hardware: Basic computer or laptop.

Instructional Plan:

Anticipatory Set/Pre-Activity: Ask students to identify a famous entrepreneur (i.e., Mark Zuckerberg) and what they know about him or her. Discuss risk and reward (from Federal Reserve linked lesson plan).

Benefits/Explanation/Real-World Connection: Students discover entrepreneurial talents and strengths.

Activities (i.e. instructions, warm-up, lesson, cool-down): Ask students to consider their level of risk taking through "Are You Ready to Take the Risk" worksheet.

Closure: Choose and research an entrepreneur (see assessment().

Assessment :

Write a summary of that entrepreneur and include three or more talents the entrepreneurial possesses.

Comments (adaptations for various grades/ages, teaching styles, etc.): Introduction of lesson best for traditional classroom style. Be sure to include opportunities for students to share and to provide guided feedback to students during conversations.
