What do the teacher and students do during the strategy that make it valuable?Prepares students to comprehend complex texts independently by teaching them to sleuth our the meanings of unknown words and phrases using context clues.
Example(s) of How to Use the Tool in the ClassroomDoes it lend itself best to a particular subjects? Have you used the strategy successfully with a particular topic? Is there a lesson you can describe that illustrates how to use it?Mostly this tool would be used while reading stories when students come across words they are unfamiliar with and proving strategies for them to decipher the word.  Also, could be used while reading informational text books where students are learning new information/ vocabulary.  This prepares and teaches students to make educated guesses.
Suggestions for AdaptationsCould it be easily adapted for a higher/lower grade? For a different subject area? For assessment?For younger grades this activity could  be modified to be done as a group either verbally or on chart paper.
