Teacher Planning:

Review safety guidelines for free play with balls in the gym.

Equipment/Materials Needed:

Different sizes foam balls - one for each student

Time Required for Lesson:

15 - 25 minutes

Have all the balls available for the students to choose from.

Demonstrate throwing, catching, kicking and safe play. 

Benefits/Explanation/Real-World Connection:

Activities (i.e. instructions, warm-up, lesson, cool-down):

Review safety guideline for safe play in the gym. Demonstrate kicking, throwing, catching and safe play. Instruct students to select a ball to play with. Allow 15 -25 minutes of free play time. Observe students as they play and document (paper and pencil or electronic devise) which students need more instruction on these skills. Try to play catch with some of the students that need some help. 

Closure:

Instruct students on the safe way to put away equipment used during P.E.
