Indiana Standard: USH 3.1, 9.3, 9.4

Objective: Students will assess various pieces of WWI propaganda and determine which is most effective and which is least effective.

Procedure:

  1. Explain what propaganda is and what it’s goal are
  2. Go through these pieces of WWI propaganda with your students, asking students what sticks out to them and what they believe the point of each cartoon is
  3. Ask students to then compose an essay explaining which piece of propaganda they feel is most effective and which they feel is least effective
  4. Finally, ask students to find their own piece of modern propaganda they feel is very effective and why
