Description

Overview:
In the paper-based Ancient Civilizations activity, students create their own civilization and see how it fares over the years based on choices they make for location, animals, plants and natural resources. Students create an artistic rendering of their civilization, trade resources between their civilizations and go to war with an unnamed enemy. This activity was inspired by Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond.

Wonderful interactive activity to teach students about starting and maintaining a civilization along with consequences of both man-made and natural origins. Activities are cross-curricular involving math, science, fine arts, CTE, ELA, etc. Collaboration with other students is also a benefit. Activities can be set as individuals or as teams. Very similar to the computer version of the same name and author. However, this version uses physical materials and is more time consuming (not necessarily a bad thing!).
