Who won the debate?

1) Driving Question (12.5 points)

Who won the 2016 first Presidential Debate?

After watching the debate, defend a stance (Hillary, Trump, or Tie). Students assigned a random point of view which allows them to explore ideas/opinions outside of their own.

2) Grabber (22.5 points)

This is an overview of the first televised Presidential debate, Kennedy v Nixon. This helps the students get a grasp of where the debates started, what matters in these debate (image, content, etc.)

Highlight video of the first 2016 debate, Trump v Clinton. This now shows the students how the televised debates have transformed over the years and they can compare what has changed.

3) Culminating Activity (65 points)

Once split into the three groups, there will be a classroom debate where the students defend their stance by giving specific evidence from the debate. Students are being graded on how clearly they articulate their points, their knowledge of the policies/issues presented in the debate, how well they collaborate with their team in order to persuade the rest of the class, and the validity of their statements.
