Success Stories: On the Radio

Prompt: To what extent does society impact our ideas of and/or ability to succeed? Write a group speech to be presented as a podcast in which you examine the complexity of this issue by choosing a position on this question. Your speech can take any persuasive or argumentative form you like. Try to think of what may be the most

  1. Develop teams of two or three (optional).
  2. Decide on a claim. What is your main claim? Whether stated directly or indirectly, sum up your main point in fifteen words or less.
  3. Select your audience. If you were to say this on air, what is the radio station or podcast channel? And who would be listening?
  4. Select your rhetorical mode(s): narration, description, cause and effect, compare and contrast, and/or exemplification. Depending on your claim and audience, what would be the most convincing way to illustrate, argue, explain your answer?
  5. Select your evidence through research to support your claim and decide on your rhetorical strategies. What resources-- authorities, personal references, historical examples, literary examples, etc-- are the most useful? Illustrative of your claim?
  6. Complete a Rhetorical Triangle of your speech (see attachment).
  7. Draft your speech. Use the attached template of a basic 5-paragaph structure if desired to help you brainstorm.
