This interactive feature story is part of Science Bulletins, an innovative online and exhibition program that offers the public a window into the excitement of scientific discovery. Published in October 2005, this Earth Bulletin looks at the causes of tsunamis and how researchers are trying to reduce their risk. It includes the following components: Three online essays: Ghosts of Tsunamis Past, From Math to Maps, Fear the Future Tsunami?; A seven-minute feature video, Tsunami Science: Reducing the Risk, available in two download speeds and as a printed transcript; An interactive that shows the creation and path of this atypical wave; An interactive that shows the effects of the December 26, 2004 tsunami on Sumatra's Aceh Province; An interactive that looks at eight history-making tsunamis; A one-minute video, Making Waves to Save Lives, available in two download speeds.
