Abstract: This site contains a variety of microstructure projects conducted at the University of Maine. QuickTime movies show the modeled deformation of rocks and the development of microstructures. Examples include the initiation of ductile shear zones, the evolution of a simple shear zone, the effects of mica caps, and grain-size reduction. Other projects include 3D reconstructions, concave microfolds, spiral-shaped inclusion trails and graduate student projects on some of the common rock-forming minerals.
