Abstract:

Three 60-minute lessons and classroom activities in which students will: 1) apply knowledge of whole numbers and place value by identifying the place value of a digit in a whole number; 2) compare numbers using the greater than, less than, and equal symbols.

Students will develop a sense of the size of a number in relation to other numbers. Prior to these lessons, students should have learned to read, write, and use base-10 blocks to represent 2 digit numbers (place value models). In these lessons, students will continue to use manipulatives to represent two digit numbers and compare the numbers using the >, <, = symbol. A summative assessment is included.
