Abstract: This USGS fact sheet provides an initial look at coalbed methane as a resource as well as the detrimental effects of releasing gas and contaminated water into the environment during extraction. Information about the formation, location, and potential of coalbed methane as well as its drawbacks, are briefly discussed.
