Abstract: This USGS report provides an overview of some of the common types of assessments used to determine the vulnerability of ground-water resources to contamination. Scientists can use the methods in this report to provide decision makers with information about how to best manage and protect groundwater resources. The report gives two hypothetical examples of how groundwater vulnerability assessments are used to define differences between management and science objectives. Background information on groundwater movement and aquifer contamination is also provided.
