Examines contemporary issues in historical perspective: Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the Gulf War, oil and regional security, impact of the Iranian revolution, Islamic movements. Heavy emphasis on primary sources, such as novels and historical documents. This course explores the 20th-century history of the Middle East, concentrating on the Fertile Crescent, Egypt, Turkey, the Arabian peninsula, and Iran.
