Short Description:
English Language Learners Bring You the World is an annual publication of writings by the students in the English as a Second Language and Intensive English programs at South Puget Sound Community College. In it, you will find paragraphs of a few sentences by beginning writers as well as longer essays from our most advanced classes. Regardless of length, each piece offers a window into the writer's unique perspective on culture, language, and life as an immigrant.

Long Description:
Since the year 2000, English language learners at SPSCC have shared their writings in this annual digest. After a two-year hiatus during the global COVID-19 pandemic, in a time of many challenges, it is with joy that we renew our publication of English Language Learners Bring You the World.

This year, over 70 students from 37 countries have shared their stories and essays. The contributions are organized alphabetically by country of origin. Student biographies are listed in an About the Authors section at the end of the book. Although the students in the English as a Second Language and Intensive English programs at South Puget Sound Community College come from all over the world, their common experiences and dedication to learning English bring them together. As teachers, we are honored to have students who are so caring and so interested in learning. We hope you draw as much inspiration from reading their stories as we have.

 This Remote Learning Plan was created by Rosa Zimmerman in collaboration with Nick Ziegler as part of the 2019-20 ESU-NDE Digital Age Pedagogy Project. Educators worked with coaches to create Remote Learning Plans as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.  The attached Remote Learning Plan is designed for a grade 9-12 World Languages student.  Students will:  learn the parts of the house and create their "Dream House" as a "mini project.

CARLA's Social Justice in Language Education project is creating instructional materials that address a wide range of social justice topics in ten languages. Grounded in multiliteracies pedagogy, these materials will improve students' language abilities, intercultural understanding, and career competencies through critical engagement with target language texts.

The Social Justice in Language Education website currently includes the following:
--Social Justice Bibliography: provides a curated list of resources in three main categories--general social justice resources; social justice and language education; and language-specific resources.

Iowa State University's Languages and Cultures for the Professions (LCP) program allows students to pursue a professional track degree—in the College of Business, the College of Agriculture, or the College of Engineering—while at the same time pursuing a second major in their chosen language in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (within the Department of World Languages and Cultures). But, it’s not just a language that students enrolled in this program are learning. A unique perspective on the confluence of the three basic conceptual frameworks in human experience. Asking and answering questions about what culture entails and examines the fundamental properties and intertwining nature of language and culture. This text explores linguistic relativity, lexical differences among languages and intercultural communication, including high and low contexts.
