Innovation continues to occur on the internet at an extremely lively pace. What was once the realm of email, FTP, Gopher, and the Web is barely recognizable a mere 10 years later. Keeping up with the speed of innovation and maintaining a familiarity with the most recent tools and capabilities is handy in some professions and absolutely critical in others. This course is designed to help you understand and effectively use a variety of "web 2.0" technologies including blogs, RSS, wikis, social bookmarking tools, photo sharing tools, mapping tools, audio and video podcasts, and screencasts.
Open Educational Resources (OERs) are bringing a wealth of information, through various technologies, to all corners of the planet. This vital new movement has greatly impacted how our next generation now learns, but the promise is far grander. For the movement to reach it’s full potential, it must keep pace with technology. As Web 1.0 has moved on to the more interactive Web 2.0, so must the OER movement progress to the more interactive, student-centered, social learning environment of Learning 2.0. In this analysis I will share current examples of social learning in OERs. First, I will look at the trend of consumers becoming producers on websites such as Connexions and Rip Mix Learner. Second, I will examine the current and future role of education in social and interactive sites like Facebook and Wikipedia. Third, I will address how social learning is incorporated into OERs that are created for developing countries. And finally, I will discuss future trends and how OERs can, and must, continue to drive learners to interact and connect when they are in disparate areas.
Increasingly, educators globally are transforming their classroom using Skype to create powerful, authentic, motivating learning experiences for their students.

When it comes to perspectives on teaching and learning, the smart technology with Web 2.0 has changed everything! We need to prepare education for the 21st century which is expected to be very different from the present one. Although we do not know the future, we can plan for our future and be prepared for it as the future is an extension of what we have experienced in the previous years from industrial society to information society and what we have now. It is commonly agreed that technology will be one of major engine to drive the change of the world. Also education is going to be in the core part of the change in the future. The education is now becoming global and open to the world.
Thus, the keywords for this course are “global education, technology and media for education”. Participants for this course will explore emerging technologies for learning and teaching.

This case study examines the use of simple audio podcasts in a fully online distance education class, as part of the DUCKLING research project conducted by the Beyond Distance Research Alliance at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom. It discusses the benefits of using podcasts as part of an integrated online learning strategy in a distance learning context, and gives an overview of how podcasts were used to introduce concepts, provide support for assignments, and to give students direct feedback on their work.
