- Abstract:
Tool for tobacco control advocates and government officials considering the impact of a change in tobacco excise taxes on a number of variables.
It has been developed to analyse the likely impact of cigarette excise tax changes on a variety of variables, TETSiM allows you to answer questions such as: * By what percentage is cigarette consumption likely to decrease if the excise tax increases by 10 per cent? * How many people are likely to quit smoking? * How many people would not die prematurely from a tobacco-related illness? * Can the government expect to increase its revenue if it raises the excise tax, and by how much? * How can the tobacco industry's pricing strategy change the likely outcomes of an excise tax change?
