Animatic Dialog Recording

Abstract:: An animatic is a movie of the storyboards. This is used for timing our motion picture. It also helps us judge if the movie will be a success. To create an animatic, the storyboard, the film score, the dialog and the sound effects are put into an editing program to create a movie which we can show to investors. Later, when we record the voices for the animated version of this motion picture, the actors will watch the animatic to help understand the action and the timing of the dialog.

Creating the 3D Storyboards

Abstract:: In this lesson, we turn the thumbnail storyboards into very beautiful storyboards using 3D software. Even though we have completed the thumbnail storyboards, we are not ready to begin filming because we do not know the timing, pace and rhythm of the story. To get this, we need an animatic which is movie made from the storyboards. The thumbnail storyboards are very quick sketches used by the director and cinematographer to set up the shots. All that is requires of thumbnail storyboards is the location of the heads of the actors and the direction of their eyes. But thumbnail storyboards do not look very good when turned into an animatic. (At least mine are not very good looking.) Therefore, we need to create better looking storyboard which are also more accurate. We can make these storyboards with 3D software such as FrameForge 3D Studio and DAZ Studio, etc. (Note: This is not programs such as Storyboard Artist which are only 2D programs.)

Abstract:: The purpose of this course is to learn how to make a short motion picture starting with pre-production. As we walk through all the steps of making this movie, you will prepare yourself for entering film school.

Abstract:: Examines the field of theatrical lighting design. Students gain an overall technical working knowledge of the tools of the trade and learn how and where to apply them to a final design. Explores artistic, conceptual, and collaborative processes of the craft. Hands-on approach with several classes spent in the theater. Students take advantage of the Boston theater scene by touring several off campus spaces and learning how theater architecture affects design choices. Assignments include: written script analysis, plot and paperwork for theoretical design in MIT theater space, and adaptation of plot to different spatial situations and locations. Oral presentations and in-class critiques. Final project required in which students execute a fully realized production (frequently a dance concert) from start to finish. This class explores the artistry of Lighting Design. Students gain an overall technical working knowledge of the tools of the trade, and learn how, and where to apply them to a final design. However essential technical expertise is, the class stresses the artistic, conceptual, collaborative side of the craft. The class format is a "hands on" approach, with a good portion of class time spent in a theatre.

Abstract:: We need to draw storyboards for this movie. Storyboards are very important. First, you should sketch out very simple storyboards called "Thumbnail Storyboards". In the next lesson, you will create 3D storyboards using the free demo version of FrameForge Studio 3D. Later, we will turn your storyboards into a test movie called an "animatic".
