Marks interviews Jesse Jeter (marketing director, Jet-A-Way) and company founders Ed Jeter and Darlene Jeter about the challenges they have faced as a minority business. Jesse Jeter says that racism is still a problem. Ed Jeter says that the business benefited minority quotas in the early years. Marks reports that the NAACP Leadership Development Training Conference was recently held in Boston. Marks's report includes footage from a luncheon held during the conference. Marks interviews William Singleton (president, Quest Publishing Company) about his experiences as an African American entrepreneur. Hope Kelly reports on charges of racism against the Boston Irish Rowing Club. Kelly notes that Larry Otway (President, St. Brendan's Rowing Club of New York) said that he was discouraged from bringing African American rowers to compete against the Boston Irish Rowing Club in South Boston. Kelly adds that Otway later rescinded his accusations. Kelly reports that Ray Flynn (Mayor of Boston) held a press conference to cite progress in fighting racism across the city. Kelly's report is accompanied by footage of Flynn's press conference. Flynn, William Geary (Commissioner, Metropolitan District Commission), Bruce Bolling (Boston City Council), John Joyce (President, Boston Irish Rowing Club), and Otway speak at the press conference. Joyce denies any discriminatory practices on the part of the Boston Irish Rowing Club. Kelly reports that Andrew Jones (Greater Roxbury Incorporation Project ) and Curtis Davis (Greater Roxbury Incorporation Project) held a rival press conference in front of the L Street Bath House in South Boston. Kelly's report includes footage of Davis and Jones speaking out against racism at their press conference. Jerry Cullitary (South Boston resident) defends South Boston against charges of racism. Kelly reports that the two press conferences presented opposing points of view on racism in Boston. Kelly interviews Susan Moir (South Boston resident) about racism in South Boston. Carmen Fields interviews Dr. Kenneth Clark (psychologist). Fields reports that Clark and his Mamie Philips Clark (psychologist) performed studies using dolls to gauge ego and self-esteem in young African American children. Fields notes that the Clarks' research influenced the Supreme Court's 1953 landmark decision on school desegregation. Clark talks about his research, saying that African American children rejected the brown dolls because they had internalized society's negative stereotypes of African Americans. Clark discusses the use of the study by NAACP lawyers in the 1953 school desegregation case. Clark talks about the importance of school desegregation and the need for white and African American children to grow up with self-respect and respect for others. He says that children must be taught to act humanely toward others. Fields' report includes footage from the 1959 film Imitation of Life and footage from Eyes on the Prize. Fields' report also includes footage of school desegregation in South Boston and shots of dolls.

Creation of the Mashpee District in 1685. Program focuses on the August, 1976 lawsuit filed by the Wampanoag Indians of Massachusetts against the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, in an effort to reclaim lands sold from 1763 to 1870 without Congressional approval. Host Barbara Barrow speaks with guest Russell Peters, President of the Mashpee Tribal Council, about the problems the council is having regaining tribal lands, when was the lands were taken, when the council decided to file suit, how Peters feels about the claim that Wampanoag marriages with Black and white Americans has diluted their culture and claim to lands, if Mashpee becoming a town gave Native Americans the power to sell their own land (as they did willingly, according to Barrow), and what will happen to the people who are living in Mashpee who feel they own their land and houses. She notes that Hardison was shot in his home. George reports that many people consider the suburbs of Boston to be safe from the problems of urban violence. George's report includes footage of African American and white mourners outside of Hardison's funeral at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Milton. White and African American mourners console one another. George interviews mourners Wilson Henderson, Theresa Jenkins, and Roosevelt Stokes outside of the church. Jenkins says that Hardison's death has brought people of both races together. Henderson talks about the problem of violence. George talks about Hardison's accomplishments at Milton High School. George's report includes footage from WCVB of Hardison with his tennis team. George notes that Hardison's death challenges stereotypes about urban violence and race relations.

MacEachern says that Bertha Brooks told him that Gaine was on Ross Field in violation of a restraining order. MacEachern says that Brooks reported that Gaine urinated in front of her home; that Brooks did not mention any obscene gestures made by Gaine. MacEachern says that he told Gaine to leave the field and that he arrested Gaine after taking the incident report from Brooks. Stephen Limon (Assistant Attorney General for the State of Massachusetts) questions a Hyde Park youth who says that he was with Gaine on Ross Field on August 22. Gaine testifies about the events of the afternoon of August 22. Gaine says that he walked to Ross Field to join a group of friends on the afternoon of August 22 and denies harassing the Brooks family and their guests. Tape 4 of 5.

Callie Crossley marks the death of James Baldwin (author) with a retrospective profile. Crossley reports on Baldwin's accomplishments as an author and his social criticism. Crossley notes that Baldwin challenged American society to deal with racism. Crossley interviews Floyd Barbour (Professor, Simmons College) about Baldwin. Barbour says that Baldwin's voice was truthful and angry. He adds that Baldwin's work bears witness to the African American experience in the twentieth century. Crossley's report includes footage of Baldwin talking about race in the United States. Crossley reports that Baldwin dealt with religious themes in his later work. Crossley's report is accompanied by shots of Baldwin's books and by footage from the American Playhouse production of Go Tell it on the Mountain. Crossley reports that Baldwin lived in France for forty years. She notes that he returned to the US three years ago to serve as a professor at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.
