After finishing their social issues research paper for their English class (or any other type of research paper), students will write and present orally a critique of one information source used in their research papers. Students will work in pairs to videotape each other, and they must also design appropriate backdrops for their oral presentations. Students will watch and evaluate all critiques. This interdisciplinary assignment combines information skills and language arts skills, and requires collaboration between the media specialist and the English teacher.
When students have inconsistent verb tense, they have a "time warp" in their stories. In this lesson, students learn that verbs tell not only what action takes place, but also when the action takes place. They will learn to identify past, present and future verb tenses and to check sentences and paragraphs for inconsistent verb tense.
This lesson focuses on the uses of the preterite indicative tense and vocabulary related to travel. The students will read various selections that demonstrate the use of the preterite. and draw pictures to illustrate their understanding. Students will demonstrate their understanding by creating a time line of their life Social Sciences and sharing it with the class. The lesson culminates with students writing a composition entitled, "I know what you did last summer" and presenting it to the class in the target language.
