This module represents a discussion of the attributes and detractions of clinics, contests and festivals and elements of each including preparation for them.

The 2002/2003 Seton Hall University (SHU) ELMP (Education Leadership, Management and Policy) Department objectives included developing a "learning community" or Community of Learners (COL) framework for ELMP to advance a research and scholarship culture and have a "researchable" element.
The Department developed a framework and concept paper to get started. Secondly, such a plan should be useful to meet NCATE Standard 5 to document faculty qualifications, performance and development. The ELMP working draft drew heavily from Boyer (1990) Scholarship Reconsidered to expand traditional ideas of "scholarship" and blend them into the COL. ELMP faculty reviewed and revised the paper and incorporated the COL in the ELMP Strategic Plan (8/05).
This paper explains the evolution of the COL, including the rationale, definitions and outcomes from the pilot usage. Initial indications are that ELMP faculty, students, and others are working collaboratively in the COL, which is the basis of expanded scholarship efforts.

The course focuses on the underlying concepts of science. Content coverage includes the scientific method, measurement in science, the human body, the nature of matter, humans and technology, and safety in science. The content will be presented in themes which in turn will draw upon students' understanding of themselves and their everyday experiences. The self-paced structure of the course will allow students to work through the material at a pace suitable to their individual needs. The course is designed to incorporate theoretical and practical components of science, including simple experiments that can be carried out at home and the use of multimedia materials to enhance presentation of the course. The course is designed to increase student problem solving skills in the subject area.

Gives students the necessary language skills to successfully employ Spanish in a variety of social situations. Focuses on oral communication and uses popular media for listening practice. Student projects involve reading, oral presentations, and classroom interaction. Emphasizes communication skills needed by students in engineering and management for work in Latin America or Spain. Taught in Spanish. A second-year intermediate course that includes vocabulary enhancement and limited review of selected points of grammar. Focuses on listening comprehension and speaking, with group activities, discussions and individual oral reports based on readings, films, music and art.

This preliminary study asked, “Who’s the most exceptional living scholar in educational leadership?” Four scholar-practitioners were nominated. The reasons nominators gave for their selections were analyzed. This module provides information regarding selecting small ensembles, selection of music for them and preparing them for a music contest. This module is directed mostly at high school directors but other directors can apply some of the same techniques to situations in their areas.

Students progress through a program which requires them to manage their own learning and establish their own future goals through a process of self development. Career planning is a key component of the program. Effective study skills and attitudes will be developed and applied to areas of communication studies to prepare the student for entry into a tertiary undergraduate course. The language content is provided in a broad context to best enable students to continue in the career of their choice.
