This OER Course is designed to introduce faculty and staff on OER basics, copyright information, and other key topics relating to OER.Please complete the online OER course individually or with a partner.  Since this is an online course, you can work at your own pace.  You will be responsible for all material covered within the course.  The course will take around 1 hour to complete.

These slides and handout were developed for a 60-min. cross-training OER session with college staff, and are therefore very general in nature. These materials could be adapted for any general introduction to OER basics and Creative Commons licenses.

The instructional materials in this module -- which includes a lesson plan, related LibGuide, two options for a citing OER activity, and multimedia citation examples for both APA and MLA style -- were designed by an OER librarian to support a research assignment that required PowerPoint slides, openly licensed multimedia (images, videos, or sound effect clips), and APA style citations.

The Faculty Quick Start Guide is an outcome of a project by ISKME, supported by a grant from the Michelson 20MM Foundation, to conduct a study and develop a set of resources to accelerate OER use for distance education, especially the urgent shift to remote learning during the pandemic in 2020. The Guide, created in collaboration with a selection of OER and online education champions across California community colleges (CCC), contains:

- Models and approaches to online learning, and to emergency remote learning in the context of COVID-19;
- How and to what extent OER fits into these models, and local and state-level supports needed for its integration and sustainability;
- Design considerations for integrating OER in online learning, including pedagogical and platform considerations;
- Curatorial practices, such as using OER curation tools and aligning curated OER to learning outcomes; and,
- Starting points and tips for colleges and faculty who want to initiate OER integration into distance education.

Tailored to faculty and campus administrators both in California and beyond, the Guide has the aim is to enable system-wide shifts to meet postsecondary institutions’ long term goals for distance learning, and faculty’s emergency plans for remote learning in response to the COVID-19 and potential future crises.

This toolkit was created by OER student leaders in the CCC and CSU systems. The toolkit's purpose is to motivate students to get involved in OER advocacy and the Open Education movement, as well as make it known that students can make a difference in their education. Education costs can be cut to a fraction of the price with OER, which would allow for more students to be able to access knowledge and higher education. While this toolkit contains some examples and suggestions specific to California institutions, it can still be helpful for all college students. Thanks to the Michelson 20MM Foundation's financial support students were paid for their work and contributions in creating this document, as well as presenting at conferences.

A working group from Iowa OER has made a list of tools used for creating or working with OER, based on the OEN's Open Pedagogy tool list. This includes software, apps, etc broken into use categories, with an index of documentation/tutorials on their use. The tools are also labelled to show if they are free/paid/freemium, and whether they are open or proprietary.

Après un premier Plan Stratégique Numerique, décliné de 2015 à 2020, l'UCLouvain se dote en 2021 d'un nouveau projet de transformation numérique à l'horizon du 600e anniversaire de l'institution. Based on a one-credit, four-week asynchronous online course developed by the author for a major U.S. based library and information science masters degree program, the OER for LIS toolkit is designed for adoption and adaptation by any instructor who would like to develop an "Open Education Librarianship" course for their LIS program. It provides all the necessary materials, including a syllabus, lecture slides, video lectures, assignments, assignment rubrics, weekly discussion board topics, weekly quizzes, required and recommended readings/videos and supplemental course materials (e.g., resource list, course success tips, etc.). 

The OER Toolkit aims to improve equitable access to open learning resources and services to college students by providing a province-wide academic support platform for faculty to use while designing courses and assignments. The Toolkit is a one-stop guide to open educational resources, providing faculty and library staff with tools and information to understand, engage with, create, and sustain OER in their work and practice.

The Toolkit is designed to be used by anyone involved with OER at an academic institution, whether you are part of a team that is collaborating to create OER, a library staff member who is supporting OER development and use, an advocate for OER at your institution, or an instructor seeking to incorporate OER and open pedagogy in the classroom. The primary purpose of this Toolkit is to support faculty and library staff at Ontario colleges; however, it is openly available for use beyond the Ontario college community.

"Open Access Explained" is an excellent short YouTube video created by Nick Shockey and Jonathan Eisen that explains the reasoning for Open Access publishing.

Open Access publishing with a Creative Commons Attribution License Ageement, for example (CC-BY 4.0 Interntional) for publications and research data is currently required by federal agencies within the United States with Publication/Data public access policies. In addition, more International Foundations like the Gates Foundation have established an Open Access Policy effective for all new agreements.

The open edition of the SPARC Open Education Leadership Program curriculum. This program runs over two semesters, corresponding to the academic year. It begins with an intensive online course in the fall, followed by an independent capstone project with mentorship support in the spring. Fellows complete the program as part of a cohort of peers that adds a rich layer of ongoing support, community, and knowledge-sharing on top of the curriculum. The program is facilitated by an instructor who provides ongoing feedback, support, and evaluation.

This 2020 report analyzes current Open Education policies and practices in the Northeast states (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont) and highlights efforts of particular note that could be replicated in other states.
