Access Excellence, launched in 1993, is a national educational program that provides health, biology and life science teachers access to their colleagues, scientists, and critical sources of new scientific information via the World Wide Web. The program was originally developed and launched by Genentech Inc., and in 1999 joined the National Health Museum, a non-profit organization founded by former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop as a national center for health education. Access Excellence will form the core of the educational component of the National Health Museum Website that is currently under development. .

This site presents a study on the impact of incorporating cooperative learning activities in a large section (>200 'at-risk' students) of General Chemistry. It includes data documenting students' performance in the course and in more advanced science courses, course materials, and videotapes illustrating cooperative problem solving in small groups. Jacobs' website provides graphic representations of his results, a site library with access to his methods and analyses and video clips showing students at work allows him to juxtapose powerful graphic representations of his course transformation with video clips showing students at work.

Students build a 9 M X 9 M model of an animal or plant cell with cell organelles inside it and give cell tours to Life Science students. May be done as two large groups, or a whole class project.

Atmosphere Applet: This program lets you study how the properties of the atmosphere change with altitude. You can study the atmosphere of either the Earth or Mars. The equations used in this program are taken from the ICAO standard day model for the Earth and from some curve fits of the Martian atmosphere gathered by the Global Surveyor spacecraft. Using the airplane graphic you can select an altitude, or you can type an altitude into the input box.

The program instantly outputs a selected property and displays the local temperature and pressure on gauges You can output the temperature, pressure, density, local speed of sound, Mach number for specified velocity, or the ratio of aircraft lift to the lift on Earth at sea level. Input and output can be given in either English or metric units.

Beyond Penguins and Polar Bears is an online professional development magazine which focuses on preparing elementary teachers to teach polar science concepts while also integrating inquiry-based science and literacy instruction. The project draws on research showing that an integrated approach can improve student achievement in science, as well as in reading comprehension and oral and written discourse abilities. Ultimately, the project seeks to bring the polar regions “closer to home” for elementary teachers and their students.

Beyond Weather and the Water Cycle is an online professional development magazine which focuses on preparing elementary teachers to teach climate science concepts while also integrating inquiry-based science and literacy instruction. The project draws on research showing that an integrated approach can improve student achievement in science, as well as in reading comprehension and oral and written discourse abilities. Through the Beyond Weather and Water Cycle project, we propose to increase elementary teachers’ understanding of climate and climate change, increase the amount and quality of science taught in elementary classrooms, and build a virtual professional learning community of practice around the teaching of climate and climate change.

Birds have different feathers that work together to allow the bird to fly. These feathers occasionally fall out of the bird's feather coat. These feathers last a very long time after the bird has died and humans have used them for writing and crafts in the past.

Most birds make homes called nests. They are built out of twigs, hair, bits of trash, mud, and many other items. Many birds build these nests in tree branches, but they can also be built on the ground or on buildings such as rooftops.

Cacti are often overlooked as flowering plants. In fact, cacti bloom with colorful flowers and reproduce like all other angiosperms.

This is an example of a species of seahorse that is a bright color instead of dark. Seahorses can change their color to blend in with their surroundings.
