Students investigate circuits and their components by building a basic thermostat. They learn why key parts are necessary for the circuit to function, and alter the circuit to optimize the thermostat temperature range. They also gain an awareness of how electrical engineers design circuits for the countless electronic products in our world.

A circuit is the electrical/physical analogue of a system. Kirchoff's laws provide connection rules about "nodes" in a circuit to determine relations between various circuit elements.
This module describes how to use a formal circuit method -- the node method--to "solve" any circuit. A formal method can be employed when standard simplification rules cannot be used.
