Module Five: Employability Skills

Abstract:: If you are thinking of looking for a job now or in the future, this module will be of great interest to you. It is designed to illustrate the importance of understanding what it takes to get prepared for the world of work, to look for and secure that job that you need so much in life. It is intended to give you skills and competences that you need to be a successful job searcher. It explores, for example, essential job search skills and approaches that will help you to compete in the changing labour market where the recruitment and selection process is becoming more and more complex. Another feature of this module is a unit telling you about the pros and cons of becoming self-employed.

Module Four: Money Management

Abstract:: Money Management may be defined as the process of managing money, including investments, budgeting, banking, and taxes. Managing your money is an essential life skill. When you know what you're doing, it really isn't so difficult. Once you've left home, the only person responsible for your financial health is you, so it's good to know the essentials. Managing your money can help reduce the stress levels that you experience throughout your life. It can help you to plan for unexpected events and expenses. A budget is a plan for spending and savings. It is a financial plan of income and expenditure which assists you in managing your finances. Subsequently we will learn about appropriate budgeting principles. Some learners make the choice and become entrepreneurs even while they are formally studying: they provide services such as barbering and manicures for a small financial return from their friends. This module will consider the qualities and the main tools of an entrepreneur.

Abstract:: The present module entitled "Intra-Personal Relationship Skills" will address several components such as self esteem and self improvement, values education, goal setting and time management, substance use and abuse, heritage and finally, wellness and care which will focus on nutrition, fitness and stress management. This will provide learners the opportunity to use basic self development concepts and strategies that promote self respect and high self-esteem. They will develop an understanding of the Universal values that enable them to better live in this rapidly changing world. They will be able to incorporate values clarification strategies in their decision making processes and apply the management principles of goal setting and time management to their personal development.

Abstract:: Communication is not a single act but a process involving various elements. The process involves the sending and receiving of messages. Successful living requires effective communication skills. Learners communicate using various elements within the process of communication. In examining communication in life skills it is important that you as the learner focus on the process, methods, barriers, listening skills, conflict resolution and anger management in your day to day interactions with other learners through technology, speech, drama and gestures in your learning environment

Abstract:: The Interpersonal Relationships Module focuses on developing the life skills of the individual within the context of healthy relationships. Relationships can be with people directly in an individual's environment or with others in the broader community. In order to maintain healthy relationships we need to be aware of the impact we each have on the lives, behaviour, attitudes and values of others.
