Florida Folklife from the WPA Collections is a multiformat ethnographic field collection documenting African-American, Arabic, Bahamian, British-American, Cuban, Greek, Italian, Minorcan, Seminole, and Slavic cultures throughout Florida. Recorded by Robert Cook, Herbert Halpert, Zora Neale Hurston, Stetson Kennedy, Alton Morris, and others in conjunction with the Florida Federal Writers' Project, the Florida Music Project, and the Joint Committee on Folk Arts of the Work Projects Administration, it features folksongs and folktales in many languages, including blues and work songs from menhaden fishing boats, railroad gangs, and turpentine camps; children's songs, dance music, and religious music of many cultures; and interviews, also known as "life histories." The online presentation provides access to 376 sound recordings and 106 accompanying materials, including recording logs, transcriptions, correspondence between Florida WPA workers and Library of Congress personnel, and an essay on Florida folklife by Zora Neale Hurston. A new essay by Stetson Kennedy reflects on the labor and the legacy of the WPA in Florida, and an extensive bibliography, a list of related Web sites, and a guide to the ethnic and language groups of Florida add further context to the New Deal era and to Florida culture. Starting with our camera high above the Earth, we rush in towards the surface at what would be an impossible speed for any known vehicle. Passing though layers of atmosphere, the colors of our destinations shimmer with their own unique characteristics, and suddenly we find ourselves floating in virtual space just above the ground.

SeaWiFS tracks Hurricane Charley from August 9, 2004 to August 15, 2004. This animation zooms down to the Caribbean Sea where Hurricane Charley was first classified as a Tropical Depression. It ends in the Gulf of Maine where it lost its status as a Tropical Depression. It shows the SeaWiFS image from each day with the track of the eye of the storm overlaid on top of each image. Green denotes Tropical Depression status. Gold denotes Tropical Storm status. Red is Hurricane 1 on the Saffir Simpson scale. Orange is Hurricane 3 on the Saffir Simpson scale. Purple is Hurricane 4 on the Saffir Simpson scale.

NASAs TRMM spacecraft is used by meteorologists to understand Hurricane Ivan. TRMM views Ivan on September 16, 2004, just as the storms most intense rains and winds makes landfall. The cloud cover is taken by TRMMs Visible and Infrared Scanner (VIRS). The rain structure is taken by TRMMs Tropical Microwave Imager (TMI). It looks underneath of the storms clouds to reveal the underlying rain structure. Blue represents areas with at least 0.25 inches of rain per hour. Green shows at least 0.5 inches of rain per hour. Yellow is at least 1.0 inches of rain and red is at least 2.0 inches of rain per hour.
