Remember your multiplication tables? ... me neither. Brush up on your multiplication, division, and factoring skills with this exciting game. No calculators allowed! The students will be given mutiplication and division problems which they must answer. They also have the option of being given a number then stating the factors of how that number was attained using either multiplication or division.

In this seminar you will learn how to factor monomials using prime factorization. You will apply prior knowledge about factoring integers. You will use the techniques learned in this seminar to factor polynomials with multiple terms as you move forward. When factoring monomials using this method, you will identify what product of prime numbers and variables will create the expression. This seminar will also begin finding the greatest common factor among multiple monomials, which is a skill that will be used moving forward on polynomials with multiple terms.StandardsCC.2.2.HS.D.3Extend the knowledge of arithmetic operations and apply to polynomialsCC.2.2.HS.D.6Extend the knowledge of rational functions to rewrite in equivalent forms.

The Factoring module is separated into two parts -- factoring numbers and factoring algebraic expressions.  Each part has subtopics. Each subtopic has a video lecture and a practice assignment.  The video lecture page includes guided notes in pdf form and videos that follow the guided notes.  Each video lecture page also includes supplemental YouTube videos which are optional for students and may be used if further instruction is needed.  The practice assignment is a set of exercises in Derivita that correspond to the skills covered in the video lecture. This work, by Magdalene (Maxie) Inigo, is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.Links to an external site.CC-BY

In this project, you will explore a real-world problem, and then work through a series of steps to analyze that problem, research ways the problem could be solved, then propose a possible solution to that problem. Often, there are no specific right or wrong solutions, but sometimes one particular solution may be better than others. The key is making sure you fully understand the problem, have researched some possible solutions, and have proposed the solution that you can support with information / evidence.Begin by reading the problem statement in Step 1. Take the time to review all the information provided in the statement, including exploring the websites, videos and / or articles that are linked. Then work on steps 2 through 8 to complete this problem-based learning experience.

This lesson unit is intended to help teachers assess how well students are able to solve quadratics in one variable. In particular, the lesson will help teachers identify and help students who have the following difficulties: making sense of a real life situation and deciding on the math to apply to the problem; solving quadratic equations by taking square roots, completing the square, using the quadratic formula, and factoring; and interpreting results in the context of a real life situation.

This lesson unit is intended to help teachers assess how well students are able to: form and solve linear equations involving factorizing and using the distributive law. In particular, this unit aims to help teachers identify and assist students who have difficulties in: using variables to represent quantities in a real-world or mathematical problem and solving word problems leading to equations of the form px + q = r and p(x + q) = r.
