- Abstract:
This module, designed for the Ethics Across the Curriculum Toolkit (EAC Toolkit), provides business, science, and engineering instructors with various templates that they can use to integrate ethics into their classes. Using general exercise formats such as an ethics pre-test and a modified Gray Matters exercise, instructors can add material to integrate these general exercise formats into their specific courses. This module is being developed as a part of a project funded by the National Science Foundation, "Collaborative Development of Ethics Across the Curriculum Resources and Sharing of Best Practices," NSF-SES-0551779.

- Abstract:
This is a preliminary version of a course in Engineering Ethics based that pulls together Connexions modules that were used as part of an Engineering Ethics course taught by William Frey in fall 2006. An Engineering Ethics Bowl competition formed the capstone experience of this course. Frey, Cruz, and Sanchez have reported in detail on the Engineering Ethics Bowl in "The Ethics Bowl in Engineering Ethics at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez," in Teaching Ethics, Volume 4, number 2, Spring 2004: 15-31. The major change in this activity reported in this course is the use of peer review teams to score the competition. This course in Engineering Ethics is being developed as a part of an NSF-funded project, "Collaborative Development of Ethics Across the Curriculum Resources and Sharing of Best Practices," SES 0551779.

- Abstract:
Upon entering UPRM, graduate students will participate in an awareness workshop that introduces basic ethical issues and concepts pertinent to research activities. A Pre-Test involving discussion of scenarios in research ethics will be followed by a lecture that defines key concepts and situates the fundamental problems of research ethics in its "Three Capital Sins," i.e., fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism. Integrated into this part of the workshop is a demonstration of the intrinsic connection between science and ethics. This workshop closes with a Post-Test designed to measure and assess any changes in student awareness.

- Abstract:
The "good" in good leadership has two distinct meanings. In the first sense of the word, Hitler was a good leader. He made efficient and effective use of political power to control the behavior of his followers. But in the other sense of "good", Hitler was a bad leader; he used power and controlled the behavior of his followers for evil ends. This module will explore leadership, the use of power, and the ends to which it is deployed to distinguish between good (=effective) leadership and good (= morally exemplary) leadership. It is based on series of class presentations given by Ricardo Lopez.
