This is a clinically oriented course, which covers topics that were not included in the basic courses of both removable partial denture fabrication and complete denture fabrication. Topics including denture repairs, overdentures, implant supported dentures, single dentures, and combination case will be covered on the complete denture side of the course. Topics on the removable partial denture side of the course will include rotational path removable partial dentures, swing lock and precision attachment removable partial dentures, as well as repair and maintenance phase information.

This program was designed for dental hygiene and dentistry students to help them learn about evidence-based dentistry and its role in providing quality dental care. This program uses patient-based case studies combined with interactive tools and activities to help students become effective consumers of oral health research data. They learn to locate, evaluate, and use the outcomes of research studies to improve patient assessment, diagnosis, clinical decision making, and treatment planning, as well as help students learn how ask focused research questions and plan a research study.

This course provides fundamental and foundational knowledge relevant to simple surgical and prosthodontic procedures for today's implant dentistry. A series of lectures and slide lectures, all containing instructive clear-cut images, cover advancements in restorative sciences, for example the Session 5 Fixed Partial Denture (FPD) Slide Lecture.

This course teaches the dental student basic medicine skills, from History Taking to the Physical Examination. It provides concise practical information about patient assessment, symptoms and signs of common diseases, laboratory tests, and pharmacology and prescription writing.

This course gives the dental student not only an understanding of the complexity of issues associated with the medically compromised patient but the ability to comfortably manage such patients in the dental setting as well.

The materials on this page represent a curriculum for teaching effective patient communication to dentistry students. These techniques could be useful for other healthcare providers, as well: medical students, nursing students, public health providers, and in-practice health care providers. There are two main types of resources: performance keys and videos.
Performance Keys are text documents that articulate key patient interaction skills, and give examples of more and less effective techniques. The keys can function as rubrics for model interactions. Some suggestions for using performance keys include:
· Have students watch videos of staged interactions between a professional and a standardized patient (actor), then evaluate the video according to the performance key
· Videotape students interacting with a standardized patient, then have them evaluate their own performance according to the performance keys
· Faculty can use the performance keys as rubrics for assessing students' interaction with real or standardized patients
The Videos on this page are staged interactions between a faculty member and a standardized patient. There are two versions of each interaction given - one that follows the performance keys, and one that does not. The differences in patient responsiveness, patient-provider rapport, and the resulting treatment plan are dramatic. You might use the videos in a number of ways:
· Play the videos in class as a demonstration in support of your lecture
· Use the videos as the basis for class discussion - not telling students beforehand which is the "good" and "bad" version of the interaction
· Have students use the performance keys to "grade" the practitioners in the videos
· Have students watch the videos and lists of "do's" and "don'ts" for interacting with patients

The goal of the course is to familiarize the dental student with all of the clinical steps and laboratory procedures which are required during the treatment of patients who will receive complete dentures, overdentures, immediate dentures and full maxillary opposing mandibular removable partial dentures. This goal is accomplished through lectures like presentations, videos, demonstrations, and visual aids.

Persons with developmental disabilities, attributable to mental,emotional, sensory and/or physical impairment are visiting the dental office on a regular basis. They deserve the same level of care that we all expect, but exposure to this population in dental education is often lacking. This course addresses these level of care issues.
