"In six minutes, a conjuring trick combining special effects and the magic of painting enables us to enter the world of Jacques Brissot. It is a visual poem that humorously recounts the building of a collage inspired from artist Peter Breugel's 'La Chute des Anges Rebelles.'" Artist Jacques Brissot is shown adding to and retouching a large-scale collage work, lending insight into his compositional choices and his techniques and methods. Music is by Michel Arich, with Barney Wilen playing saxophone.
This class investigates the theory, method, and form of collage. It studies not only the historical precedents for collage and their physical attributes, but the psychology and process that plays a part in the making of them. The class was broken into three parts, changing scales and methods each time, to introduce and study the rigor by which decisions were made in relation to the collage. The class was less about the making of art than the study of the processes by which art is made.
Students will create a clown portrait using tempera paint, oil pastels, and collage. They will look at prints of clowns from artist Pablo Picasso, Red Skelton, George Rouault, and Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus.
Students will create a symmetrical artwork with construction paper, glue, and yarn. This lesson will allow students to use critical thinking to create an original work. They should learn that there is more than one solution to a creative problem.
High School students learn how to honor loved ones through creating art. They will incorporate writing, photography, painting, and collaging. Visual meditation will guide them in focusing deeper on details and memories. Through the process of art making, students learn and share each others' stories and learn about themselves.
This course looks at the history of avant-garde and electronic music from the early twentieth century to the present. The class is organized as a theory and production seminar for which students may either produce audio/multimedia projects or a research paper. It engages music scholarship, cultural criticism, studio production, and multi-media development, such as recent software, sound design for film and games, and sound installation. Sound as a media tool for communication and sound as a form of artistic expression are subjects under discussion. The artists' work reviewed in the course includes selections from audio innovators such as the Italian Futurists, Edgard Varèse, John Cage, King Tubby, Brian Eno, Steve Reich, Afrika Bambaataa, Kraftwerk, Merzbow, Aphex Twin, Rza, Björk, and others.

This is an interdisciplinary unit that incorporates research of historical events of the past century. By students learning to recognize that society impacts the themes within art and literature, students then take this knowledge base and interview an individual to develop a biographical narrative, a collage, and oral presentation.
Students create a mixed-media work of art using drawing materials and mosaics inspired by artist Niki de Saint Phalle. The content of the work will focus on self-expression. Concepts will include positive/negative space, contrast, and self-expression.
The students will use newspaper and magazine pictures to recognize geometric figures within the real world. They will make a collage of pictures showing various geometric shapes. They will write a summary of the shapes that are represented in their collage.
Students will study commercials and advertising techniques, will work in groups to select different types of ads from magazines, and make a collage to illustrate one of the ten techniques advertisers use.
