Introduces the object that contains almost all of the mass in the universe, the atomic nucleus. Antimatter, beta rays, fission and fusion, the structure of the atomic nucleus, how elements on the earth were produced, how we use the nucleus in every day life, and the effects of radiation in the environment are among the topics. The site includes nearly a dozen experiments that can be done in chemistry and physics classes, along with A Teacher's Guide to the Nuclear Science and Technology Wall Chart. (less)

This module helps students to understand more clearly the relationship between titrations of antacids and their effectiveness. It gives students a real world application in terms of determining which antacid will most effectively neutralize stomach acid. Students work with graphing titration curves in excel, and finally they can also use virtual lab software to experiment more completely with titrations. (less)

How do strong and weak acids differ? Use lab tools on your computer to find out! Dip the paper or the probe into solution to measure the pH, or put in the electrodes to measure the conductivity. Then see how concentration and strength affect pH. Can a weak acid solution have the same pH as a strong acid solution? (less)

This Science NetLinks lesson is intended for a high-school, introductory chemistry class ... (more)

This Science NetLinks lesson is intended for a high-school, introductory chemistry class or health class. The lesson begins with an article on the history of the development of aspirin. Students will then complete a lab that compares the reaction of regular aspirin, buffered aspirin, and enteric aspirin in neutral, acidic, and basic solutions. They will then analyze the results of the experiment to gain insight into how this information was used by researchers to solve some of the problems associated with aspirin. To complete the lesson, students must understand acids and bases. (less)
