This course is an introduction to contemporary calculus and is the first of a three-part sequence. In this course students explore the concepts, applications, and techniques of Calculus - the mathematics of change. Calculus has wide-spread application in science, economics and engineering, and is a foundation college course for further work in these areas. This is a required class for most science and mathematics majors.

looks at an area that was once part of an Indian village, then an outpost shelter for vaqueros (cowhands), and then the site where Californios (Spanish settlers in what is now the state of California) built small adobe dwellings in the midst of their cattle ranges. Successive owners altered one dwelling into the elegant 18-room ranch house there today -- Rancho Los Alamitos.

The larval stage is the second step in a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. This caterpillar has tentacles to feel around with when it moves. It has true legs and prolegs. The prolegs work like little suction cups and help the caterpillar hold onto things. It has spiracles so it can breathe in and out.

This study investigated one school district's transition from a junior high model to a middle school philosophy. Numerous documents were examined and individual interviews and focus group discussions were analyzed to reconstruct the process and strategies used to facilitate the institutionalization of this complex change effort. Participant voices helped weave a rich fabric of events and provided further insights into organizational change. An understanding of change theories, the process of change, and what facilitates and hinders reform are essential components in the knowledge base of educational administration. By providing practical experiences of change, the abstract process of implementing reform can become more concrete for educators who want to significantly alter the outcome of schooling.

The outcome depends on the nature of the innovation and how it is introduced (Evans, 1996; Fullan, 1993; Leithwood, Jantzi, & Steinbach, 1999) or the strategies used to implement the innovation (Fullan, 1999, 2003a; Hall & Hord, 2001; Short & Greer, 1997). It also depends on what training opportunities and structural support are provided to those required to implement the change (Hall & Hord, 1987; Schlechty, 2001).

This course examines the evolving structure of cities and the way that cities, suburbs, and metropolitan areas can be designed and developed. Guest speakers present cases, involving current projects, which illustrate the scope and methods of urban design practice.

Students will use plastic coins and paper bills to practice making change with a partner.

In this lesson students will work in small groups making change to $1.00 using coins and pictures of items priced from Sunday fliers. In advance the teacher will cut out pictures of items costing less than $1.00.

The goal of this activity is for students to learn how to tell a story in order to make a complex topic (such as global warming or ozone holes) easier for a reader to grasp. Students realize that the narrative impulse underlies even scientific and technical writing and gain a better understanding of the role of myth as a "science" of imagination that helps us to gain insight into human motivation.
