The purpose of this assignment is to familiarize students with interpreting charts and graphs by using a credible source, the US Census.
This module teaches students to think about household and family dynamics over time, and to use computer software to access and analyze census data and to produce and interpret simple statistics.
The purpose of this module is to introduce students in an online Criminology course to the idea of data analysis using an online analysis program and the General Social Survey. Prior to this module, students will have read several documents describing the scientific method including terminology such as statistical significance, independent and dependent variables, and operationalization. Once students have read this document, they then complete a guided online analysis and turn in their answers by completing an online quiz.
For this assignment we will explore the impact of gender and race on the earnings of full-time workers in 2000. The purpose of this assignment is to introduce you to some basic data analysis software (WebCHIP), to develop some familiarity with working with data from the Current Population Survey, and to apply what you have learned in the course to try to explain differences in earnings based on race and gender.

Current and projected data will be used to examine cohort differences among members of various race/ethnic groups as they grow older in order to identify possible political and policy implications for the future. Data from various states and metropolitan cities will be compared.
As discussed, the murder rates for Blacks in the United States are substantially higher than those for Whites, with Latino murder rates falling in the middle. These differences have existed throughout the 20th and into the 21st century and, with few exceptions, are found in different sections of the United States.
In this module, students will explore trends in education and occupational attainment among minority groups.
This module will focus on the value of an education. Students will be asked the following questions: "Does equal education guarantee equal earnings? If not, why? Besides education, what else affects one's earnings?" In a search for an answer to these question, students will consider such factors as race, gender, and age in terms of the role they play in the determination of earnings.
While you do the exercises in this lesson, you will find data that look at some of these claims. In the next lesson, we will explore some of the demographic "causes" of the increase in the status of women-declines in both mortality and fertility and an increase in urbanization.
