Plants and animals that live in water create some amount of acid in the water. The carbon dioxide that plants and animals release into the water makes the water acidic and unsafe for living organisms. This is why the water of captive aquatic animals and plants must be changed often.
The adult frog now lives on land and has nostrils and lungs to breathe air. It also has front and hind legs to hop around on. This frog can start the life cycle over again by laying eggs and reproducing.
Algae are producers. This means that they make their own energy and food and do not need to eat other organisms to gain energy and live. Algae use the sun, water, and carbon dioxide to go through photosynthesis and make their own energy to grow, bloom, and reproduce.
The anther is a part of the stamen, the male part of a flower. It produces pollen so that bees and other insects can help spread pollen to other flowers.
Amphibians are vertebrates. Amphibians lay eggs to reproduce and undergo metamorphosis to go from offspring to adult. They are cold-blooded, meaning they rely on their surrounding environment and the sun to stay warm.
Zebras generally stay in herds together. Zebras standing together may tend to look like one very large animal to predators. Also, predatory attacks send the zebras running in every direction. The stripes could confuse the attacker as to which animal it is chasing after, leaving it without any food in the end.
Fish are vertebrates, meaning they have a skeletal system to support their bodies. All fish live underwater. Fish have gills to help them breathe underwater and fins to help them swim. Most fish are cold-blooded, meaning their body temperature is regulated by the surrounding water temperature.
One reason why leeches are considered to be annelids is because they have segmented bodies. Leeches suck blood from animals to get food. They release an anesthetic into the animal they are feeding on so that the animal doesn't realize they are feeding on them.
This turtle has a back full of green, mossy algae. When the turtle is stationary in the water, it can camouflage itself to look like a moss-covered rock.
Items in nature, such as twigs and leaves, can show bite and chew marks where animals have been eating off of plants. Animals make trails by traveling over the same area several times to get to a destination.
If an animal track is fork-shaped, it was probably made by a bird. If the track shows four or five toes and is paw-shaped, it was probably made by a mammal. There are many other tracks that different animals make.
Fertilizer is one way to provide crops with the nutrients they need. Pesticides can also be applied to crops to keep them healthy and free of insects. However, applying too much fertilizer or pesticide protection could harm the environment and organisms.
All arachnids have eight jointed legs. They lack antennae and wings, so they cannot fly. The body of an arachnid is divided into two parts, the cephalothorax and the abdomen. Arachnids lay eggs to reproduce.
One reason why ticks are considered to be arachnids is because they do not have antennae like insects do. Ticks suck blood from animals and are sometimes difficult to remove from the host's skin.
